| | | 10th and East G, Anchorage, Alaska, 20 Feb 1948. | Photo caption: 20 Feb 1948 Anchorage, Alaska 10th and East G - - privies and shacks predominate in this scene. Poor housing is one of the major factors in the high degree of illness of children under 10 years of age in this portion of Alaska. This may be attributed in part of lack of sewage disposal and in some areas to garbage disposal. While in the past the common house fly has not been a major factor in health in Alaska it may this coming year play a leading part in the illness which may reach sub-epidemic proportions. We state this because there are many new comers to this area - - some of whom are ex-service men and others construction workers from South Pacific and Asiatic Areas who may be carrying diseases which have not in the past existed in Alaska.
